Survey Findings

Survey 2009

survey-findings-1In early 2009 key members of the Think Tank formed a Steering Committee. They requested specific information about the group of people CLP represent, their level of impairment, and the levels of care and supervision needed to enable them to be cared for when their families can no longer do so.

Accordingly a parent/carer survey was devised and about 500 were sent throughout the community. It was made clear that all accommodation options sought by families would be lobbied for - not just the intentional village concept. Over 250 responses have been received to date, most expressing a keen interest in the Village.

The Survey was used by parents and carers as a forum - many writing comments showing their desperation about their family’s circumstances and the destruction of their lives. The Survey provided definitive information about the number of people currently seeking supported long term accommodation, as well as those likely to be seeking it in the future. It presents a disturbing picture of how, by not providing reasonable options for this group, our community is failing these families - most pretend they are managing, while quietly living in complete despair.
